One week down...

So I survived my first week teaching 8th graders. And didn't write anything about it all week...mostly because it was a truly exhausting week. Exhausting, but I do think fairly successful. I am, quite honestly, figuring out what I'm going to do, and how I want to teach, and all of what comes with teaching English, but as far as establishing a rapport with the kids, I think I've begun to do that. I have one class that seemed like it was going to be tough at the beginning of the week, and while there are still some kids in there who are tough, the class is really coming around and I've made some serious inroads with some of them.

I have jokingly said to many people that I find it so weird that they all seem to be doing what I ask them to. I think people here don't quite get what I mean when I say that. They said, oh, it's the first week, they all do that. Well, maybe here they all do that, but not where I've been teaching for the last six years. So that's sort of refreshing and a little weird. And I wonder how long it will last.


We are reading our first story this week, one that I think is kind of fun. We'll see how that goes.
