One week until school starts
So I have officially one week until I meet my next group of students. I am feeling strangely calm about it. I have most of my work done in for the new year. I know the classroom looks a little bare, but hopefully I can take care of that in the next week or so. I think more than any other year, I have a pretty good grip on what I want to accomplish this year. I'm still not thrilled with the way things are going, but in an environment like I"m in now, my own personal choices are more limited than I would like. As I was explaining to someone the other day, I can't control what I teach, or how I assess, but I have some control over how I teach it. I guess that's what I have to work with.
Not to go off too much on my soapbox, but I think dealing with the reality of what you have and doing the best you can with it is important. You can also spend time trying to change that reality, but understand that for this year, for this group of students, this is my reality. Spending a lot of time complaining about it isn't going to help anybody.
